Parents & Athletes,
Don't forget this friday, the Green vs. Gold meet is at 2:00! It should be fun!
Next week we have two official swim meets:
Tuesday March 3rd- versus Huntington at Poly (this meet is always a good one)
Thursday March 5th- versus Downey at Downey (be warned: Downey is an outdoor pool)
Now, a few things about Swim meets:
-Meets last at least three hours
-The boys should bring at least two towels, and something warm to wear, even if the meet is indoors!
-The boys also need their suit and goggles ... Preferably their team suit!
-If your son does not have a pair of khaki pants, please get them a pair, I will be asking the team to wear them, along with our team shirts, on days we have a meet.
Note the schedule for practice next week (march 2nd thru 6th) is posted on this blogsite!
The boys will get a hard copy of our meet schedule as soon as possible...
Go Poly!!

Tyler Talks!
Parents and Athletes,
We've finally begun the start of our regular season practices!
Next week we have a full week of practice and hard work, Monday the 23rd through Friday the 27th. The practice schedule for next week is posted on the left of this blog.
The kick off dinner will be held at Fuddruckers in Lakewood (5229 Clark Ave), at 7:00 in the evening, be sure to RSVP with Margaret (margaret@schoolsavers.com) if you're attending (parents and athletes).
If you ordered your gear on time: it will be available at the dinner!
The Green vs. Gold meet is a full swim meet. Our boys are split into two teams (green team and gold team), as are the girls, and we have ourselves a good old fashioned swim meet with all the events and the girls too!
This meet is fun, and familiarizes our athletes with how swim meets are run throughout the season.
See you all at the Kickoff Dinner!

Coach's Notes!
Athletes and Parents,
Swim season officially begins next Tuesday, Feb. 17th. Which means,
regular season practices will be starting ... These are the much longer and
much more difficult practices that everyone loves!
Now ... A few things you should know, and know that I know:
I know 3 hour practices are long (I have to be there too!), but know
this:
In swim, as in many other things in life, you only get what you give.
No one is going to hand us a league championship, and no teams are going
to let us beat them, we need all the practice time we can get to get the
fullest potential from the boys.
I know driving back to Poly for 4:00 to 6:00 workouts is real
crummy. It's only twice a week at most. As of right now we have
nowhere else to practice, MLK is now closed on those days due to budget
cuts in the city. Not that if MLK were open we would not have 4:00 to
6:00 practices on Monday and Wednesday afternoon, MLK pool is nowhere
near big enough for our team! Our pool at Poly is a competition pool
that we have 6 Swim Meets in. It's big, has pace clocks, has diving blocks, has our equipment, and doesn't have 85 degree water. The more time we have there the better!
Other Stuff:
The team kick-off dinner is scheduled for Tuesday the 24th of this month
at Fuddrucker's in Lakewood (more details later). Please be sure you
email Margaret, Enzo, or Myself to let us know you'll be there, so we
can let Fuddrucker's know you'll be there. I expect everyone, parents
and athletes, to be there!
I haven't met all of you parents yet, and if I have I may not be able to recall your name or who your son is, so the more I see you and talk to you the better I'll know you.
I also plan on having a small parent's meeting at the dinner.
Teams (Varsity, JV, Frosh/soph) are still in the works, but they should
be finalized by this weekend.
More coming soon!

Notes from the Coach!!
To All,
Since the new semester began we have been in the weight room in the mornings, and swimming in the afternoon, starting next week, tuesday feb. 10th, the boys will start dividing up into levels, (freshmen, JV, and Varsity), and will have swim and/or weight room training three mornings a week, (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings), and we will still be swimming in the afternoon from two to two-thirty. I know it's difficult to take these practices seriously, but I know for a fact that Wilson is already training hard, so we've got to be training effectively during these workouts. That starts with being at practice on time, training hard, and finishing practice.
Starting Feb. 17th we will be having regular season swim workouts, which will be longer afternoon workouts. I still have some details to schedule for these practices, which will be finalized this week.
The Frosh-Soph, JV, and Varsity teams will also be finalized this week, and I will have those posted in the office, on this Blog site, and on my next email.
Thanks,
Tyler
