Swim News For Parents And Athletes!!!
Parents and Athletes!!!
I apologize for the schedule mishap,
Today, Wednesday 4/22, we will have practice from 12:45 till 3:45.
I only found out about the minimum days recently and had to coordinate around the girls practice. I was too late to send an email and relied on the boys to communicate to parents, if you arranged something based on my original email, please do what you can.
Thanks,
Tyler

Back to Reality...
Everyone,
Spring break is winding down! Bummer, I know. But the next two weeks are gonna be filled with some awesome workouts!!
Those of you waiting to hear about the San Diego trip, parents especially, the flyer with the info will be put together this week, so fear not!!
I don't know the exact cost per swimmer for the trip, but last year I believe it was seventy five dollars, this covered the hotel and bus.
The next couple of weeks' practices are now posted!
REMINDER > Sell those tickets for the carwash!!!

SPRING BREAK PRACTICE!!!
Parents and Athletes,
Next week is spring break! Usually we hold practices at LBCC during this week, but I found out today that we were unsuccessful at booking the pool for the week (frown).
So our practices will be at good old Poly! 8:50am to 11:30am!! Woohoo!
The San Diego Invite, which is the last Saturday of this month (04/25), is coming up soon!
Some info about the protocol for this little trip:
~ the trip and the events are a lot of fun!
~ We have a charter bus booked to take us to San Diego after the Lakewood meet
~ I think the bus is actually picking us up from Soup Plantation in Lakewood, so we'll have dinner there and then head to SD
~ I have flyers with hotel info, etc for the people who will be going
~ Boys who cannot attend the trip (who are on the list) need to let me know ASAP, because I will invite another swimmer, and they need to know ASAP.
Great! That's all I've got ... see everyone soon!

New Rules!
Parents and Athletes,
It pains me to admit this, but our boys have had too much stuff stolen from their bags. At practice, and at meets the boys have had things like iPods and cell phones taken. As much as I hope that the boys are not stealing from each other, I feel that the theft has gotten to the point where I need to start taking measures to ensure this stops!
Hence, a few new rules (hopefully this is all):
-from now on everyone will be leaving practice together. That means we leave after everyone has changed and is ready to go. Anyone who needs to leave early will have to speak with one of the coaches just before leaving.
-the same thing will apply to swim meets, both at Poly or away. So plan on staying for the entire meet from now on.
I apologize before hand for the headache and inconvenience this is going to cause, but since there is little that the coaches can do after something is stolen, I feel that preventing theft is one of the best things we can do.
As parents I hope you understand, much thought and discussion was put into this decision.
As high school boys, I know the boys don't understand at all, but I'm not worried about that.

Parents, Boys and Fans,
After our first big meet I hope everyone is feeling optimistic about the season!
The next couple weeks are full of fun practices! …and a couple meets!
Spring Break! I know it's vacation from school, but it's not a vacation from swim! We can't afford a nine day break in the middle of the season. Being in the water as much as possible is going to give us our best chance at a good taper for league finals. Be at these practices!!!
We're starting to race stronger opponents, and our practices will be getting harder, "Keep your eyes on the prize!" All this training is for Moore League Finals, and for some ... CIF.
Swimming your best at the end of the season, takes a whole season of hard work, there is no substitute or equivocal. Don't forget that in the days to come.

Gettin' Ready for the BIG one!!
Parents and Athletes,
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend, as short as it was. Don't forget, Monday 3/23 we swim against Westminister at Poly!
Note the updated schedule on this site in particular the "water polo day" change!
On Friday the boys gotta wear their team shirts and jeans!
Be ready for hard Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday practices!
Carbo dinner Thursday night!!!
Just so everyone knows, the further we get into the season the harder
practices are going to be, and our yardage will be increasing. This is
so when League finals come around we can start to cut back on yardage
and start "tapering".
Stay strong, stay focused, stay driven ... no matter how tired you are!
Every practice counts, every set counts, every lap counts!!

Just a Few Updates for Swim!
Everyone!
I've got a few announcements about the upcoming days, one of which is a schedule correction:
Next monday (3/23) we have a meet against Westminister High at Poly.
Also, some of the boys are starting to get ancy about water polo, and have been asking about practicing, so Scott and I decided we would try to hold a small practice next Wednesday (3/25) following swim.
We will have practice as normal on Wednesday (3/25) from 2:00 to 5:00pm but at 4:30pm we will get out the water polo balls; warm up a bit, and scrimmage till 5:30 or 5:45pm. I know some guys only do swim, or may not want to participate in the water polo; those who wish, will just have normal swim practice till 5:00.
Lastly, at the Pasta dinner this Thursday (3/19), the tickets for our Carwash Fundraiser will be handed out to the boys for them to sell. Each swimmer will be responsible for selling five to seven tickets to the car wash in May.
Don't stress about the details when you read this, we'll be talking about it more at the Team dinner and at practice.
Thank you!

Here We GO!!
Parents & Athletes,
Don't forget this friday, the Green vs. Gold meet is at 2:00! It should be fun!
Next week we have two official swim meets:
Tuesday March 3rd- versus Huntington at Poly (this meet is always a good one)
Thursday March 5th- versus Downey at Downey (be warned: Downey is an outdoor pool)
Now, a few things about Swim meets:
-Meets last at least three hours
-The boys should bring at least two towels, and something warm to wear, even if the meet is indoors!
-The boys also need their suit and goggles ... Preferably their team suit!
-If your son does not have a pair of khaki pants, please get them a pair, I will be asking the team to wear them, along with our team shirts, on days we have a meet.
Note the schedule for practice next week (march 2nd thru 6th) is posted on this blogsite!
The boys will get a hard copy of our meet schedule as soon as possible...

Tyler Talks!
Parents and Athletes,
We've finally begun the start of our regular season practices!
Next week we have a full week of practice and hard work, Monday the 23rd through Friday the 27th. The practice schedule for next week is posted on the left of this blog.
The kick off dinner will be held at Fuddruckers in Lakewood (5229 Clark Ave), at 7:00 in the evening, be sure to RSVP with Margaret (margaret@schoolsavers.com) if you're attending (parents and athletes).
If you ordered your gear on time: it will be available at the dinner!
The Green vs. Gold meet is a full swim meet. Our boys are split into two teams (green team and gold team), as are the girls, and we have ourselves a good old fashioned swim meet with all the events and the girls too!
This meet is fun, and familiarizes our athletes with how swim meets are run throughout the season.
See you all at the Kickoff Dinner!

Coach's Notes!
Athletes and Parents,
Swim season officially begins next Tuesday, Feb. 17th. Which means,
regular season practices will be starting ... These are the much longer and
much more difficult practices that everyone loves!
Now ... A few things you should know, and know that I know:
I know 3 hour practices are long (I have to be there too!), but know
this:
In swim, as in many other things in life, you only get what you give.
No one is going to hand us a league championship, and no teams are going
to let us beat them, we need all the practice time we can get to get the
fullest potential from the boys.
I know driving back to Poly for 4:00 to 6:00 workouts is real
crummy. It's only twice a week at most. As of right now we have
nowhere else to practice, MLK is now closed on those days due to budget
cuts in the city. Not that if MLK were open we would not have 4:00 to
6:00 practices on Monday and Wednesday afternoon, MLK pool is nowhere
near big enough for our team! Our pool at Poly is a competition pool
that we have 6 Swim Meets in. It's big, has pace clocks, has diving blocks, has our equipment, and doesn't have 85 degree water. The more time we have there the better!
Other Stuff:
The team kick-off dinner is scheduled for Tuesday the 24th of this month
at Fuddrucker's in Lakewood (more details later). Please be sure you
email Margaret, Enzo, or Myself to let us know you'll be there, so we
can let Fuddrucker's know you'll be there. I expect everyone, parents
and athletes, to be there!
I haven't met all of you parents yet, and if I have I may not be able to recall your name or who your son is, so the more I see you and talk to you the better I'll know you.
I also plan on having a small parent's meeting at the dinner.
Teams (Varsity, JV, Frosh/soph) are still in the works, but they should
be finalized by this weekend.
More coming soon!

Swim season officially begins next Tuesday, Feb. 17th. Which means,
regular season practices will be starting ... These are the much longer and
much more difficult practices that everyone loves!
Now ... A few things you should know, and know that I know:
I know 3 hour practices are long (I have to be there too!), but know
this:

Notes from the Coach!!
To All,
Since the new semester began we have been in the weight room in the mornings, and swimming in the afternoon, starting next week, tuesday feb. 10th, the boys will start dividing up into levels, (freshmen, JV, and Varsity), and will have swim and/or weight room training three mornings a week, (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings), and we will still be swimming in the afternoon from two to two-thirty. I know it's difficult to take these practices seriously, but I know for a fact that Wilson is already training hard, so we've got to be training effectively during these workouts. That starts with being at practice on time, training hard, and finishing practice.
Starting Feb. 17th we will be having regular season swim workouts, which will be longer afternoon workouts. I still have some details to schedule for these practices, which will be finalized this week.
The Frosh-Soph, JV, and Varsity teams will also be finalized this week, and I will have those posted in the office, on this Blog site, and on my next email.
Thanks,
Tyler
